Therapy with me is a collaborative process, grounded in social justice and an understanding of oppression, where I view clients as the expert on their life. With me, clients can explore and embrace their true selves without judgment or disbelief, fostering a strong therapeutic alliance. This is due in part to all those studies saying the therapeutic alliance is the most significant factor for positive outcome regarding our technique or approach. This is also due to my belief that therapy is a place to experience something different than we are used to. But clients also deserve to be met with a competent therapist that is comfortable drawing from evidence based approaches, techniques and strategies. I don't believe there is just one approach and draw from several. The most common approaches I used are:
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Narrative Therapy. Highlights strengths. Reframes past challenges as separate events as opposed to part of an identify. Helps reconstruct the present and build the future with intention.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) to explore how thoughts and beliefs affect emotions and actions, based on the premise that shifting or replacing unhelpful thoughts and beliefs leads to behaviors that support positive change.
Ego Psychology to build trust in self, enhance self-protection and increase authenticity.
Eye-movement desensitization reprocessing, or EMDR, to change your relationship to pain from the past and triggers for unhelpful behavior so you can navigate your current and future events without familiar feelings from the past at the forefront of your decision making.
